I can’t begin to tell you the feeling of satisfaction I feel when I open up drawers that are all put together and organized. But, I can tell you how much I dislike to open a drawer and find nothing but messiness. Messy drawers just bother me. I can tell you, our drawers haven’t always been nice and tidy, but now that I know the feeling of having nice and tidy drawers, I will NEVER go back to the way I felt when my drawers were messy. It was just always a feeling of frustration and defeat. And, I no longer wanted to feel like that.
When I first started getting our house in order, I noticed it wasn’t just about the way that area looked, it was also about the way the organized area felt. There was a calming feeling about the organized area that wasn’t there before. I didn’t feel overwhelmed anymore when I would open different drawers in the house. Instead, I felt calm and happy.
If you are just starting out on your organizing journey, and just don’t know where to begin. I have written a post about just that subject; Where Do I Begin? The First Step in Getting Organized. In this post you see the importance of starting small. Starting with drawers is the perfect place to start. It isn’t overwhelming to accomplish the task AND you feel like you have completed something. I love the feeling I get after I have organized something. I will go back to that project and admire my results for the next week!
As I said, the best place to begin in your organizing journey are your drawers, here is a post that will show you a discrete way to help keep your kids drawers organized. It isn’t just in the labeling of things, but also the way you put the clothes in the drawers. Ideally, you should be able to see each of the items when the drawer is open. Here is a post about Organizing Your Children’s Drawers. Though it does say your children’s drawers, it can be applied to any drawer in your house. I use this strategy or organizing in all the community drawers in the house. That way, if someone uses the stapler or tape, they know where to return it to.
To stay along with the drawers, let’s go into the kitchen and organize those drawers as well. As stated in the post I wrote about Organizing Your Kitchen Drawers, I struggled to find dividers than fit in the kitchen drawers the right way, so we made dividers. And, the best part was, they didn’t cost a lot of money nor take a lot of time to make. And, they have worked out wonderfully! Now, when I go into the drawers, everything looks great and things aren’t getting stuck like they once were.
Has this post inspired you to clean out all the drawers in your house? You will be amazed at how cleaning out drawers can make you feel. I would love to hear about your progress. Leave a comment and let me know how you are doing.
