It’s summer time, which means soon you will be hearing the famous words, “I’m bored” being spoken. Instead of sending your kiddos on their way to watch Netflix or play on their phones, why not have some summer fun this summer! Finding summer fun activities to do as a family can be a bit overwhelming and often times we just give up on our own good intention, but not this year. This year we are going to see this fun summer thing through.
Outdoor summer fun activities to do as a family:
Strawberry picking – go strawberry picking then come home and make some great summer desserts with the strawberries you just picked. Strawberry smoothies, cakes, muffins, and roll-ups are just a few things to get you started on your strawberry adventure.
Go on a trail walk – There are always new trails to discover and always interesting things to find along those trails.
Make a science experiment – Even if you don’t understand the how’s and why’s behind the science experiment it’s always fun to learn why something exploded. Here’s a science experiment book to get you started.
Take a day trip to a historical site – Do you have some local historical sites close to your house? Why not go discover something new about your area.
Bike rides – Can’t go wrong with an evening of bike riding in your neighborhood.
Take Fido on a walk as a family – Instead of walking the dog feel like a chore to someone in the house you can all do it as a family. I bet when you walk Fido as a family everyone will want to hold the leash.
Swimming – Nothing says summer like swimming. Go for a swim with your kids. Don’t just go to watch, get in the pool and have some fun.
Have a watermelon seed spitting contest – See who can spit those seeds the furthest!
Indoor summer fun activities to do as a family:
Go bowling – Did you know your local bowling alley probably has a league that you and your family can join for the summer. If a league isn’t something you want to commit to, your kids can possibly bowl for free. You will have to see if your bowling alley is one that participates in the program.
Volunteer at a local shelter – Want to feel good? Do something for someone else and do it as a family. Find a local shelter where you can give back to your community.
Paint your nails – if you have girls in your family you understand how fun it is to have your nails painted. Play your favorite tunes while you enjoy time with your favorite girl(s).
Cook together – Let the kids decide the age old question, “what’s for dinner?” Have them help you make the list, go shopping, prepare the food, and get the praise when everyone raves about how good dinner was.
Board games/card games – Playing board games or card games could become a weekly tradition in your home. Not sure what games to play? How about the classic game of UNO. That’s always a favorite around our house.
Skating – Such a fun past time for many of us. Did you pass this fun activity along to your children? You know you’ll have fun if your doing it with your family. Not to mention the calories you will burn in the process. This summer your kids can skate for free at your local skating rink (if they are participating).
Going to the library to check out books or the library reading time – Help your kids stay at their current reading level by making sure they get some reading time in this summer.
Bake together – Why not get in the kitchen and see what kind of fun and tasty treats you can whip up as a family. Cakes, cookies, french toast, and muffins are always a favorite.
These summer fun activities are sure to keep you and your family moving and off those electronic devices! What’s something from this list you are going to try? What are some ideas not on this list you plan to do this summer?
