A couple weeks ago a couple of my blogger friends and I brought you a new series called Adventures in Organizing: One Space Many Ways. We are picking a project and sharing with you how that same project can be done different ways. This month’s project is all about Organizing the Holidays. If you missed the first part of everyone’s challenge you can read them now. If you are ready to see everyone’s results, keep reading.
Since more shopping occurs during the holiday season, more receipts seem to show up. An area I have found to be a struggle during this time of year has always been my purse and the amount of receipts that were just thrown in there. There was no rhyme or reason to the mess. It was hard to find things I was looking for. One day I decided enough was enough and finally did something about it.
In my previous post I mentioned sharing with you a simple, yet effective way to organize your receipts. The answer is so easy you will wish you had started years ago. Ready for it?
An envelope. Yep, can’t get much easier than that. One simple envelope with “Christmas receipts” written on the front. I also like to include the year.
So since we are still in the beginning stages of our holiday shopping for this year, go ahead and grab an envelope. Do you already have some receipts from this past weekend you can add to your envelope? Keep your envelope in your purse and anytime you purchase a gift go ahead and add that receipt to the envelope. Now you’re set to continue organizing the rest of your holiday.
The type of envelope doesn’t matter. If you happen to not carry a purse, then keep the envelope in your car or where you pay your bills.
An added bonus: You can even write on the back of the envelope what receipt is for which gift for quick reference.
If someone happens to not like a gift they received or perhaps they received duplicates, it takes very little time to locate the receipt.
Another wonderful benefit to this simple organizing strategy would be, it’s FREE! As long as you have an envelope in your house. This organizing tip won’t cost you anything.
So what are you waiting for? Grab an envelope now and write Christmas receipts on it. Tuck it in your purse for the next time you go shopping. You will be glad you did.
