Ready for fall? I know I am. Though, I love all seasons, there is something special about the BEGINNING of each season; the newness, the thought that we have another chance to start something we wanted to start the season before, but for whatever reason never got around to it.
Fall brings about cooler weather, shorter days, the beauty of the leaves changing colors, hot cocoa and s’mores by the fire pit. It also brings about change. It is interesting to see the changing of the season take place gradually. We get to see the leaves change slowly from green to the beautiful fall colors of red, orange, yellow, and eventually brown.
Change in our lives, just like the changing of the seasons is inevitable. We can resist change or we can go with it. Can you think of a time when change was taking place in your life and you were against it, only to look back and see it was the best thing that could’ve happened? Oh how I have frequented the resistance of change more often than I care to admit. However, change is essential. That’s how we grow. That’s how nature continues on year after year. Nature knows that in order to thrive, it must shed its leaves or its branches will break with all the weight of the snow that comes in winter. Nature knows what it is doing. I think we, as humans, could learn a thing or two from nature if we would just pay closer attention.
Last week I wrote about Fall Cleaning, which is similar to Spring Cleaning just done in the fall. I am in the midst of knocking out my fall cleaning list and getting everything in its place. It’s like a momma bear getting ready to hibernate for winter. Do you also clean and get ready for winter? If you don’t, I would love for you to check it out.
Have you noticed that when you are wanting to change something in your life, it comes with inward resistance and sometimes outward obstacles. Trying to change something and make something a habit takes time. While living in this day and age where everything is always so instantaneous, time isn’t something we care to wait for. We want to change and we want to change NOW, right?
But, like the leaves on the trees in the fall, change takes time. Time is a gift. If we look back at an event in our life, was it not time that made everything unfold exactly as it was meant to?
If you are in the midst of change just as the leaves on the trees are also in the midst of change; hold on, be patient, time really is on your side. Time sees what we don’t.
